Campaign and Identity Rationale

Being a real radio show on the Townsville’s community radio station,

103.9 Triple T, we already have access to advertising on the radio with

our audio jingles. In the past we have also used street posters and

advertised on the newspaper but we can also design business cards and

product gimmicks such as USB sticks and coffee mugs to help promote

our show. Basically we will try to place our logo on many things to

promote our show as much as we can to remind people about our radio

show.

Because our show is only on for two hours every week on a community

radio where the presenters (me) are not getting paid, it is more difficult to

advertise as advertising cost money. Although advertising on a billboard

for our show is going overboard, I still created a design just in case we do

get offered a full-time job with additional hours on our radio station

(because you never know how long our radio show will continue).

Advertising on newspapers is a great idea however usually daily

newspapers get thrown out of the house by customers after one day.

Placing an ad in a magazine or a newspaper such as ‘The Place’ is a

better idea as these mediums tend to stay around the household laying on

the coffee table for about a month before being thrown out.

I have designed a flash animation which can be placed on the internet on

a website or as a pop-up ad. This is a great idea as many people

especially people aged between 15 – 25 use the internet and the internet is

international.

This original logo was created by drawing block letters of ‘Kyle n Ken’

and looking at the ‘K’, I thought it would look awesome if I attached a

guitar neck to the letter. I was going to use many pictures to substitute

letters of ‘The Radio Men’ but in the end to avoid confusion, I decided to

just substitute the ‘i’ in ‘Radio’ for a radio tower.

Although we are trying to get as many listeners as possible, ‘Kyle n Ken

The Radio Men’ are focusing their aim at young people aged from 15 – 25

year old. I believe choosing the colours red and black with a white

background were good colours for our logo as we are aiming at both

males and females. The guitars appearing in the logo will show that this

radio show will be playing mainly rock music, which is

Update on Business Card

I made some minor changes on the business card design such as changing the telephone number and other text changes.

I decided to change the phone number to both our mobile phone numbers because we use our mobile phones frequently and have it with us 24/7.

The other text change was to change the word ‘Website’ to ‘Listen Online’ so listeners will understand that going onto the Triple T website will give them access to listening to our station.

Audio Advertising

Just did an 30 second audio jingle which goes along the lines of:

“Do you like this type of music? (old music playing) Or do you love this (modern music plays/screaming) Listen to Loop Live, Kyle & Ken The Radio Men on Friday Nights, 8 o’clock to 10 o’clock. We have a playlist that has a great variety of music that goes from Heavy Metal to dance to alternate to today’s music. Like to request a song? Ring us up on 4721 5333. This is music for the youth, by the youth. 103.9 Triple T.”

New Ideas

To promote our radio show more, I have also decided to try out designing a page in a newspaper, a design for a billboard, an audio jingle and possibly product gimmicks such as beer coolers, USB sticks, T-shirts and fridge magnets.

To advertise in the newspaper is a great idea especially in newspapers or even in magazines that are issued every month as these newspapers or magazines usually hang around the household for at least a couple of weeks as opposed to daily newspapers that get thrown out after one day.

It would be quite silly not to create an audio jingle for a radio station, therefore an audio jingle will be created.

To add our logo on product gimmicks like beer coolers, USB sticks, T-shirts, fridge magnets etc is another way to advertise our show to remind listeners that we are on the radio waves.

Finally, to advertise on a billboard is fantastic as most people usually only listen to the radio when they are driving in their car.

I have not looked up the prices of advertising, but I would believe that most was of advertising (especially using a billboard) would be costly. Despite this, it would not hurt to make designs.

Despite the logo with the speaker looks cool and ‘rad’, I have decided to just use the ‘o’ text to avoid confusion and so people will easy read the word ‘radio’.

With peers, experts as well as myself looking at the logo created, I have decided to do a small change to the logo. To some people when they read the logo, they read ‘Kyle n Ken The Rad Men’. Despite us being ‘rad’, it isn’t the idea that we are selling. Therefore to fix this, I might either make the subwoofer speaker more darker to emphasize the ‘o’ or just place a normal ‘o’ text in the word ‘radio’. I have not decided yet so I will first ask people of what they think and I will also have a look myself.
